How and Why it Works
It is not difficult to imagine that the presence of an intercooler directly in front of the coolant radiator is a clear handicap regarding the effectiveness of the cooling system. Consider that the mass rate of flow of ambient air through the radiator is largely determined by the area of the radiator and the forward velocity of the car. Now add an intercooler that will slow the air flow as well as add heat to the air that heads directly to the radiator. This does not always put the system into an overheat condition, thanks to a system margin of safety, but it clearly reduces that margin and often to a critical degree. That “critical degree” is even more likely exceeded with track usage.
The Aeroduct is configured to pull approximately 20% more air flow from beneath the car and send it directly to the radiator.
This, of course, is air at ambient temperature, not air at an elevated temp due to having passed through an intercooler.
The prospective buyer might perceive the vulnerability of the duct portion of the assembly as a real problem. Not so. The decrease in the ground clearance is actually quite small, and the proximity of the front wheels carries the duct up when a bump is encountered.
Our Aeroduct can be fitted with additional vents that when combined with the included tubing and hose, will provide fresh air to cool the front brake rotors. This will help extend the life of your brakes while also reducing the chance of heat-related brake fading.
